- Description: A propensity-matched analysis of US National Inpatient Sample admissions for acute myocardial infarction between 2003 and 2022 reports higher in-hospital mortality and more cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock and stroke among Asian Pacific Islander patients than among others.

The study used the US National Inpatient Sample to compare hospitalisations for acute myocardial infarction among Asian Pacific Islanders and all other patients between 2003 and 2022, with propensity score matching on measured characteristics. Matched Asian Pacific Islander admissions showed higher rates of cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, respiratory failure, renal replacement therapy, stroke and bleeding, and higher in-hospital mortality, a gap present across the whole period. The abstract reports significance levels only and gives no effect sizes.

*Why it is interesting: An ethnic gap in acute coronary outcomes that persists across two decades of a national administrative series, though reported without magnitudes.*
