Six registries in five European countries covered breast, colorectal, cervical, stomach, liver and lung cancer from 2003 to 2017\. First-generation migrants were compared with host populations, with birth countries grouped into quartiles of GLOBOCAN incidence. Cervical, stomach and liver risk rose with birth-country incidence, reaching about five times host cervical risk in Turin. Breast and colorectal risk was lower in every category; overall risk was lower in 9 of 11 registry-sex strata. Ukrainian-born migrants in Poland (n=4,450; 2022–2023) had higher cumulative risk than the host population at most sites. Risk grouping used national GLOBOCAN averages rather than individual exposures, and four registries cover single regions.

*Why it is interesting: European cancer surveillance rarely records migration background, so national averages can hide high-risk subgroups. Migrants from high-incidence countries had up to five times the cervical risk of hosts near WHO elimination levels.*
