The study examined whether e-cigarette flavour type predicts later short-term abstinence from vaping. It used PATH waves 4 to 7, covering 8418 US youth, young adults and adults. Generalised estimating equations linked past 30-day flavour use at one wave to abstinence at the next wave. Sweet flavours were most common: 46% of youth, 44% of young adults, 41% of adults. Against exclusive menthol or sweet flavour use, tobacco or flavourless use raised abstinence odds (AOR 2.2, 95% CI 1.9-2.5). Multiple flavour use lowered odds (AOR 0.61, 0.53-0.71); abstinence was self-reported over only 30 days.

*Why it is interesting: Flavour restrictions are an active policy lever, and this links flavour choice to whether people stop vaping. The age gradient shows youth are least likely to achieve abstinence.*
