- Description: In 470 matched pairs of obese, non-diabetic patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment was not associated with lower atrial fibrillation incidence (HR 0.86, 95% CI 0.53-1.39), while all-cause mortality was lower (HR 0.42, 95% CI 0.23-0.75).

A retrospective analysis of TriNetX electronic health records compared obese, non-diabetic patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction who received GLP-1 receptor agonists against untreated patients, propensity-matched to 470 per arm. Incident atrial fibrillation did not differ between the groups (hazard ratio 0.86, 95% CI 0.53 to 1.39). All-cause mortality was lower in the treated group (hazard ratio 0.42, 95% CI 0.23 to 0.75), an estimate resting on a small number of events.

*Why it is interesting: Separates the arrhythmia and survival signals for GLP-1 agonists in a phenotype where obesity is thought to drive both.*
