This study related 2013 MIND diet scores to 2016 DNA methylation measures in 1,740 Health and Retirement Study participants. Each 1-s.d. higher MIND score was associated with 0.4 years lower PhenoAge acceleration (95% CI -0.8 to -0.1). GrimAge acceleration was 0.3 years lower and methylation Pace of Aging 0.0054 lower. All three survived false-discovery-rate correction. Results held after BMI adjustment and after weighting for which participants had methylation measured. A machine-learning method, causal forests, found no subgroup that consistently benefited more than others. The design is observational, with diet and methylation each measured once, so residual confounding cannot be excluded.

*Why it is interesting: Epigenetic clocks offer a way to study diet and ageing without waiting for disease or death. Three different clocks moved in the same direction, though the age-acceleration differences were under half a year.*
