This single-blind randomised trial tested Mindful Mood Balance for Moms, a web-based mindfulness-based cognitive therapy programme for perinatal women. It enrolled 500 euthymic pregnant women across the USA with recurrent depression and recent or current antidepressant use. Participants were randomised to the programme plus usual care or to usual care alone, and followed to 6 months postpartum. Relapse occurred in 33% of the programme arm and 44% under usual care (hazard ratio 0·74, 95% CI 0·56-0·99). Average PHQ-9 falls were 0·75 versus 0·31 during the 12-week intervention, but 0·61 versus 0·54 over the full period. Only 389 (78%) of 500 participants provided assessment data at 6 months postpartum.

*Why it is interesting: Depression among perinatal women is a major public health problem, and this programme is web-based. Relapse to 6 months postpartum was lower with it, but full-period symptom burden did not differ significantly.*
