This retrospective electronic health record study followed 9,189 adults with obesity but without diabetes. All started subcutaneous semaglutide or tirzepatide and were followed for 12 months. Coverage under 32 days occurred in 36.7%, and 82.7% of these had no further antiobesity prescriptions that year. Of those covered for 32-179 days (27.0%) or 180-335 days (17.7%), 72.3% and 89.5% respectively had none thereafter. Only 18.6% had coverage of 336 days or more, and reinitiation or switching to another agent was rare. The data come from a single academic medical centre and a retrospective design.

*Why it is interesting: Use of GLP-1-based drugs for obesity is rising, yet fewer than one in five adults here had near year-long coverage. Restarting or switching was rare, so most who stopped were prescribed no other antiobesity medication that year.*
