# Type 2 diabetes fell by a quarter among Australian sleeve gastrectomy patients

A statewide administrative cohort characterised cardiometabolic comorbidity and frailty in all adults undergoing primary laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in New South Wales from July 2017 to June 2022\. Among 34,738 patients (78.3% female, 96.6% in private hospitals), 72.3% had one or more cardiovascular risk factors, and age-adjusted type 2 diabetes prevalence fell from 148.8 to 112.5 per 1,000\. Men had more risk factors (44.3% versus 28.0% with two or more), higher comorbidity scores and slightly higher frailty scores, with the highest burden in public-hospital men.
