CDC clinicians reviewed US VAERS reports submitted between August 2024 and July 2025 after receipt of the JN.1-based 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine formulation, with medical record review for serious reports and adverse events of special interest. Of 9856 reports, 877 (8.9%) were serious and 273 were deaths, with cause available for 97, most commonly circulatory (38.1%) and respiratory (15.5%) disease. No report met the Brighton definition for anaphylaxis; eight met it for Guillain-Barre syndrome and six met the CDC definition for myocarditis or myopericarditis, both at reporting rates below background.

*Why it is interesting: A further season of passive surveillance on an updated formulation, which the authors describe as consistent with previous observations after COVID-19 vaccination.*
