- Description: Among 4,638,247 Swedish children, heat, very low or very high intraday temperature swings and more rain were linked to admissions.

This case time-series study examined weather and inpatient hospitalisation in all Swedish children aged 6-18 years. National register data covered 4,638,247 children, of whom 1,070,702 (23.1%) had 1,736,169 admissions. Poisson regression with individual fixed effects modelled curved effects delayed by up to 21 days. All-cause admissions rose with mean temperature, peaking at hot extremes, and intraday temperature variability showed a U-shaped association. Higher precipitation was linked to higher risk, humidity was not, and risks were highest in younger children and East Sweden. Estimates at high rainfall and for most cause-specific outcomes were imprecise.

*Why it is interesting: Intraday temperature variability was linked to higher risk at both low and high levels, separately from mean temperature. Age and region shaped risk more clearly than sex or socioeconomic position.*
