Menopausal hormone therapy users had higher breast cancer incidence but lower mortality

In 78,209 women in the PLCO screening trial, ever use of menopausal hormone therapy was associated with higher breast cancer incidence (aHR 1.17) and lower breast cancer mortality (0.72).

A secondary analysis of 78,209 women in the PLCO screening trial related menopause timing and hormone therapy use to breast cancer outcomes. Ever use of hormone therapy was associated with higher incidence (aHR 1.17), concentrated in hormone-receptor positive disease. Breast cancer mortality was lower in users (0.72), and later menopause was associated with slower ageing measured in blood DNA.

Why it is interesting: Separates incidence from mortality for hormone therapy, and links earlier menopause to faster ageing measured in blood.
