Type 2 diabetes fell by a quarter among Australian sleeve gastrectomy patients
Among 34,738 adults having laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in New South Wales between 2017 and 2022, type 2 diabetes prevalence fell 24.4%, from 148.8 to 112.5 per 1,000, while 72.3% still carried at least one cardiovascular risk factor.

Mortality was about a quarter higher for Australians in same-sex relationships
Australian census records linked to death registrations for 2011 to 2023 show all-cause mortality about a quarter higher among adults in same-sex than different-sex relationships, and external-cause mortality two to three times higher, both before and after the 2017 marriage reform.
