The Swedish national cancer registry recorded 853 second primary lung cancers between 1961 and 2021. Their number rose almost linearly from 1980 in women and men alike, with adenocarcinoma making up 63.9% of them. Among those whose first cancer came before age 55, the relative risk reached 6.68.
Why it is interesting: Second cancers remain rare, but the excess risk is highest in those whose first came before 55.
