The analysis estimated cervical cancer screening coverage among women aged 30-49 worldwide. Three in five had never been screened by any method. Some 92% had never had an HPV test, the high-performance test on which the elimination strategy rests. Coverage varied substantially between regions and between country-income levels. Both figures sit well below WHO's target of screening 70% of women. The coverage figures come from a synthetic analysis rather than direct measurement in every country.
Why it is interesting: Separates HPV test-based coverage from screening of any kind, with 92% never having had the test that elimination modelling assumes. The gap matters to those costing cervical cancer elimination and modelling future incidence.
