Nicotine pouch take-up is higher among US adults using other tobacco products

In the PATH study of 24,640 US adults, those using smokeless tobacco only took up oral nicotine pouches at 42.4 times the rate of adults using no other tobacco product.

Waves 7 and 8 of the PATH study tracked nicotine pouch use among 24,640 US adults, of whom 0.8% used pouches in 2022. Those using smokeless tobacco only took up pouches at 42.4 times the rate of adults using no other tobacco product. Adults using cigarettes only or vapes only also stopped using pouches at two to three times the rate of others.

Why it is interesting: Take-up is set against existing tobacco use, with cigarette-only and vape-only users also discontinuing pouches faster.
