A prospective analysis of 300,875 UK Biobank participants free of kidney stone disease scored seven lifestyle items - physical activity, body mass index below 25, sedentary time, sleep, smoking, fluid intake and diet - and followed them a median of 12.3 years, identifying 3,088 incident cases. The favourable group had a hazard ratio of 0.51 (0.44 to 0.59) against the unfavourable group. Unfavourable lifestyle combined with high polygenic risk gave 3.08 (2.49 to 3.80) against favourable lifestyle with low genetic risk, an additive rather than multiplicative interaction.
Why it is interesting: The estimate is for the composite score, so diet and activity cannot be separated from the five other items it contains.
